‘Army of Darkness‘ is the third film in the Evil Dead series by Sam Raimi, and starring Bruce Campbell.
The first two films (The Evil Dead, and Evil Dead II) in the Evil Dead series went on to become horror classic (with lots of dark humor throughout) – Army of Darkness flips the balance around and puts the comedy before the horror.
The plot follow Ash (Bruce Campbell) as he gets sucked into the portal seen at the end of Evil Dead and we see him land 1300 AD. Things then get even more weird – he gets captured, gets hailed as a hero, gets embroiled in a war against an army of the dead, and subsequently learns that he must retrieve a book called Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, in order to stand any hope of returning home.
The posters for the film are a lot of fun, and pretty spectacular. Some of the theatrical posters released were a wonderful spoof of pulp/romance paperback fiction books (think Mills and Boon) with a muscled hero standing proudly, with the love interest seeking protection and safety at his feet. This is a film that wears its sense of humor on its sleeve for all to see.
