‘Bio-Zombie‘ is a Chinese horror-comedy film directed by Wilson Yip.
The film is both a spoof and homage to George A. Romero’s ‘Dawn of the Dead‘ (1978) in that all the action takes place in a shopping mall where a band of shop-workers and customers have to group together and use what they can in the shopping mall to survive a zombie outbreak.
The plot basically follows two young men (both of whom work at the shopping mall) who hit a man with their car as they are driving back to the mall. It turns out that the man is carrying a drink that had been impregnated with chemicals in order to turn it into an experimental biological weapon (Iraq gets the blame for this in the film) that causes the person consuming it to turn into a flesh hungry zombie.
Unsure what to do they take the man back to the shopping mall and give him a drink to revive him – he soon turns into a zombie and starts infecting others in the shopping mall.
The rest of the movie from here on basically follows the efforts of the survivors in trying to escape as the infection spreads, and mall fills up with more and more zombies.
The movie celebrates its silliness and fans of the genre will enjoy spotting numerous Romero references in the film. Basically, any zombie fans will find much to enjoy here as long as they take out their brain and just enjoy the ride.
Not many posters for this, but the main one that was created is a clash of colour and kinetic activity – just like the movie.
