Braindead‘ is a comedy horror film that was directed by Peter Jackson (the same Peter Jackson of ‘Lord of the Rings’ fame). The dark humor, buckets of gore, and splatter-filled scenes ensured that it became an instant cult classic. It was also released under the title ‘Dead Alive‘.

The film follows a man called Lionel who is a total ‘mummy’s boy’ who spends his whole time pandering to every whim of his overbearing mother, who treats him like a slave.

He falls in love with a local girl, but when his mother attempts to interfere with one of his dates at a local zoo, she gets bitten by a ‘sumatran rat monkey’, and the bite ends up turning her into a zombie.

Lionel tries to keep his life as normal as possible….as he continues to care for his zombie mother, but she infects others, and before long Lionelo has a house full of zombies.

This movie is great fun,it is genuinely funny, it has a priest that does kung-fu, and one of the most bloody scenes (involving a lawnmower) that you’ll ever see in a movie.

Compared to the film, the posters are pretty subdued….guess the budget must have mostly gone on the blood and gore effects.
