‘Junk‘, also known as Junk Shiryōgari is a Japanese horror movie that was written and directed by Atsushi Muroga.
The movie is basically a splatter-filled blend of Yakuza and Zombies. The plot follows four jewel thieves who pull off a successful heist and then head to an abandoned warehouse where they will hand the goods over to the waiting Yakuza.
Things don’t pan out quite as they had planned when it soon becomes evident that the warehouse was formally a location used by US scientists for experimenting on corpses and trying to re-animate the dead.
The thieves and the Yakuza then have to survive and escape as the undead hordes start showing up.
The film was made on a minimal budget, but remains slick. It keeps its tongue firmly in its rotten cheek throughout, and the movie wears its influences proudly on its sleeve with references to Reservoir Dogs, Dawn of the Dead, Re-Animator and many more.
It is also a very bloody film, with a lot of gore flying about the screen which will appeal to many splatter and horror fans.
‘Junk’ posters and art
‘Junk‘ came with some pretty cool artwork and posters, and like many Japanese films of the era, and genre, its all quite arresting and kinetic to look at.
