Messiah of Evil‘ was directed by Willard Huyck and was also later released under the title ‘Dead People

It follows the story of a woman who goes in search of her missing father. Her quest soons leads her to a remote coastal town in California which is being run under the influence of an evil undead cult.

The film was notable for its atmosphere and dreamlike sequences that run throughout the film. This is more of the more psychedelic entries into the zombie genre

Amazingly, this film was actually distributed for a short while under the title ‘Return of the Living Dead’ to make it sound like it was linked to George Romero’s ‘Night of the Living Dead‘ – needless to say it wasn’t long before it was issued with a ‘cease and desist’ from Romero’s company.
