‘Return of the Living Dead 3‘ is the third entry into the series, but this one drops the black comedy that featured heavily in the first two films and takes a more serious approach.
The film is loosely connected to the preceding films in the sense that the military are continuing with their experimental work with Trioxin gas, which can bring the dead to life.
The son of one of the military officers sneaks into a lab and watches a few of the experiments with his girlfriend. Later when his girlfriend is killed in a motorcycle accident, he returns to the lab and uses the Trioxin to bring her back to life.
The film was directed by Brian Yuzna (of Bride of Re-Animator fame).
The posters that accompany the film show off the updated styling that Yuzna gave to the series – the punk theme from the first two films is still there, but it’s much more sexy-cyberpunk in its approach. The main zombie (the girl) is far removed from the jerky and slapstick stylings of Tarman and the others from the Return of the original film.
