‘Teenage Zombies‘ is a US film directed by Jerry Warren and was released in 1959
The film follows a group of teenagers who stumble across a strange island when they are out on a boating trip. It soon transpires that the island is actually being used by scientists who are testing out a nerve gas that can turn people into mindless zombies.
The teens get captured and caged and are to be used as subjects for the final nerve-gas test, before it is unleashed on the United States.
The evil mastermind behind the plan is never really revealed, but it is strongly hinted that it is an ‘Eastern’ country (assume Russia)
The zombies in ‘Teenage Zombies’ are of the hypnosis type, there is no undead shuffling ghouls here.
This is an odd film, with an equally odd theatrical poster that makes it look like a King Kong film – the gorilla used in the poster is a reference to a zombie gorilla in the film. Yes, that’s right, a gorilla is subjected to mind control and turned into a zombie.
