‘Zombie Genocide‘ was released in 1993 and was written and directed by Darryl Sloan.
Despite being a little-known film, ‘Zombie Genocide‘ has the distinction of being the first zombie film to come out of Ireland.
It was made on a minimal budget and the film was created without using any real studio or editing equipment, the entire movie is edited in-camera from start to finish.
The story isn’t really anything new – a group of friends go camping in the woods and when they return home they find that they have missed an event that has turned the rest of the world into zombies. Survival needs to become a way of life for the returning group.
Despite the low budget, the execution is actually pretty good – the story is interesting enough to keep the viewer engaged, and some of the locations that depict a deserted town are actually pretty compelling. Overlook some of the technical limitations imposed by not having a budget and you will find some enjoyment here if you are a zombie fan.
